Otronicon 2009 Impressions
Orlando’s gaming festival is being held at the Orlando Science Center, a cool place all it’s own even without the convention. Four gigantic levels of a gaming nerd’s wet dream: a plethora of HDTVs with consoles lighting up the screen, a giant stage for the Rock Band junkies, simulators left and right, and all the facets of our friends and presenters from Full Sail.
The stamp the convention left on me continued to grow as we kept discovering more areas to explore and gander at. Every time I thought we’d reached the last area it turned out there was another one right around the corner. It was pretty slow tonight as far as the number of people goes, but I imagine tomorrow is where you’ll get the best bang for your buck. There’s definitely plenty to do; there’s even a lounge full of retro action arcade cabinets when you’re not able to mark the controllers upstairs with hand sweat.
I look forward to seeing everyone gathered in one place for a common purpose: fun, competition, and most importantly, knowledge. Otronicon seems like it will be a pretty big hit. It’s the only east coast gaming convention outside of cosplayers at Comicon. It’s pretty sad, too, considering we’re home to one of the biggest publishers of the industry and a school that dumps nearly 2,000 people into the laps of HR reps of the entertainment industry every month. You’d think more people would move their headquarters here, I mean with all the talent like yours truly and all… 😉
Check out Otronicon’s website @ www.otronicon.org and sign up to attend a class or two. You won’t regret it, I swear! Be there or be….a dumbass…
